'The Blacklist' season 4 spoilers: Liz discovers Kirk's lies

(Facebook/NBCBlacklist)'The Blacklist' season 4 premieres on Sept. 22 on NBC.

Alexander Kirk's (Ulrich Thomsen) words must be taken with a grain of salt for Liz (Megan Boone) and her family's sake in the upcoming season of "The Blacklist."

Last installment, Kirk suddenly appeared, claiming he was Liz's father. As far as Liz was concerned, Constantine Rostova was killed after she shot him that fateful day many years ago. Young Liz was trying to protect her mother, who was being severely beaten by the drunkard. When her father died, her mother blamed her for what happened. Later on, it was rumored that she committed suicide, leaving Liz alone in the world. Since then, her life was destroyed and it left a mark on her that has never faded over the years.

Liz and Mr. Kaplan's (Susan Blommaert) plan went smoothly when they faked the former's death and arrange a meeting with Kirk. For Liz, she was tired of Red's (James Spader) secrets and wanted to find the truth on her own. Kirk told Liz he just knew about her existence and that he has been keeping tabs on her ever since. Executive producer Jon Bokenkamp said in a previous interview that Liz must take Kirk's words without reservations. Boone, however, thinks it is too early to trust Kirk.

Boone recently told Entertainment Weekly that a lot would be happening in season 4. Aside from Liz's search for her mother, viewers will finally learn whether Kirk was telling the truth when he claimed Liz was his daughter. Boone said that her character should be wary of the man's intention. She also hinted that the answers to most of her character's questions about her life will be revealed soon.

"What comes to light is that it's not really Reddington bringing all of this upon her, it's her own history and where she comes from. Something you start to realize through season 4 is she was strapped with this from birth. ... It's very complicated and it's something that actually gets revealed — it's a big reveal in episode 3 of season 4. Like a lot of the people that crop up in our show, his agenda is not necessarily altruistic. He doesn't have the best of intentions," the actress said.

The Blacklist returns Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
