'The Flash' season 3 air date and spoilers: Show's fiery red poster teases new adventures; will Patty Spivot return?

(Facebook/CWTheFlash)Barry will begin to lose his memories and power as he stays in the alternate timeline.

"The Flash" season 3 will be speeding its way to The CW in less than two weeks, and fans are eagerly looking forward to Barry Allen's new adventures.

A just-released poster for the third season of "The Flash" teases what fans can expect when the Scarlet Speedster returns. The glaringly red poster simply shows the superhero, apparently in motion. The simple tagline — New Destinies. New Danger — hints at the series' attempt to incorporate the Flashpoint story arc and the dangers that Barry will face.

Fans will recall that in the season 2 finale, Barry (Grant Gustin) traveled back in time to save his mother. His actions were understandable, considering he just lost his father to Zoom, but it will have dire consequences to his timeline.

Viewers will immediately see the aftermath of Barry's actions in the premiere episode of season 3. According to reports, episode 1 will find Barry happily living a normal life. He's with his parents, he has asked Iris (Candice Patton) on a date, and is enjoying being a normal guy. No more saving the city as another speedster, Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) has taken on the mantle Barry previously carried. But messing with the timeline has its bad effects, as Barry starts forgetting his old life and begins losing his powers. Interestingly, the Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher) might be the one to set Barry straight as he taunts him and tells him of the repercussions he and his loved ones will experience if he stays in this alternate reality.

Barry would have to decide soon whether he wants to be a normal guy or if he wants to do the right thing. It's undoubtedly a difficult decision to make, but fans won't wait long to find out what Barry's choice will be as the Flashpoint storyline will allegedly be resolved pretty quickly.

The upcoming season might also see the return of a fan favorite — Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten). There have been reports that Barry's old flame might be coming back. VanSanten did admit to the possibility of her return "if everything works out."

"The Flash" season 3 will return to The CW on Oct. 4 at 8 p.m.
