Entertainment Weekly was able to confirm that Amell will indeed be returning in an upcoming episode of "The Flash" season 3. Whether he will be returning as the original Ronnie Raymond or a doppelgänger from an alternate universe, The CW has kept mum about his role. Perhaps he will once again return as a new character. To note, Amell has appeared on the show as two different versions of Ronnie Raymond.

The original Ronnie, who was married to Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), was once a structural engineer at STAR Labs. After the particular accelerator explosion, he turned into a metahuman and he eventually became the second half of Firestorm. He was presumed dead when he helped destroy the singularity, which opened their world to Earth-2. Soon after, viewers saw Amell return as Ronnie's doppelganger from Earth-2, who was a villain named Deathstorm. His second character was killed by season 2 villain, Zoom (Teddy Sears).

Shortly after the news of Amell's return broke out, Panabaker expressed her excitement for Amell's reappearance. She retweeted the link to the news article, and she captioned it "Woo hoo!"

At last year's Emerald City Comic-Con, Amell also told his audience that he enjoys the role, and that he enjoys working with his on-screen lover.

"I actually really love playing the Ronnie Raymond side of the character, getting to do scenes with Danielle and the rest of the cast. The Firestorm stuff is really fun to do and fun to see on TV, but to ground something as a real person is nice for the acting side of things," Amell revealed.

"The Flash" season 3 returns on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
