"The Following" finally got rid of villainous Joe Carroll as season three's first episode saw him on death row. While the season is finally ridding itself of a Joe-filled life, is danger still lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce on the team?

Episode two of season three will see Ryan finding a connection between Andrew and Mark. However, he and the FBI are unsure how this ties to Joe Carroll, reports Latin Post. Additionally, Ryan's life is in grave danger and the only way he can be rescued is by telling the truth and facing it. Also, someone will continue to target him, as was seen by viewers in episode one. This prevents him from leading a normal life.

Perhaps what intrigues fans the most is Joe Carroll. Are Ryan and his team really rid of that monster? Well, he may be on death row but actor James Purefoy, who essays the role of Joe, hints that his character is actually part of something much larger. He told TVGuide, "I think one of the things that we are beginning to realize is that Joe is a part of something much bigger. There is something else going on here that is beginning to reveal itself as the season progresses. So, just because he's in prison doesn't mean to say that bad things stop happening. He's been in prison before. He's escaped from prison before. It wouldn't be beyond the bounds of possibilities that he might escape again."

Moreover, fans should expect more villains and less gore as the show moves towards the psychological aspects of violence rather than the physical. Antagonists will be complex characters with rich emotions in season three of "The Following". Also, Ryan and this team will deal with the consequences of taking the law in their own hands which they extensively did in season one and two in order to get to Joe. One person in Ryan's team will pay the ultimate price of his actions. Expect a major character's death as "The Following" returns with episode two "Boxed In" on Monday, March 9 on FOX at 9 p.m.
