The ABC Family network has revealed that the third season of the family drama series 'The Fosters' will begin on June 8 at the 8 PM time slot, as per this article at TV.com. The show has maintained consistent viewership ratings since its pilot episode a few years ago which garnered 1.42 million viewers. Succeeding episodes for the show have scored similar viewership ratings, with a range from 1.2 to 2.0 million viewers.

More impressive than the viewership ratings is the mostly positive reviews the show has compiled. The general consensus of the show is that despite its adherence to a soap-opera style plotting, the show appeals to both adults and younger viewers based on its themes. 'The Foster's' has also received praise for its portrayal of LGBT characters and themes, with the show winning a GLAAD Media Award as Outstanding Drama Series.

The main cast of the show are all scheduled to return, save for Jake Austin who departed from the show following the second season for unspecified reasons. Lead actresses Teri Polo and Sherri Saum return in their roles as bi-racial lesbian couple Stef Foster and Lena Foster. They will be joined by series regulars Hayden Byerly, David Lambert, Maia Mitchell, Danny Nucci, and Cierra Ramirez.

Rounding out the regular cast are series newcomers Katherine McNamara, Keean Johnson, and Tom Williamson. The three additions will play recurring roles in the series, with McNamara playing Kat, a piano prodigy, Johnson playing Tom, a musical composer, and Williamson as AJ, a teenage runaway.

The third season is once again expected to air for at least twenty one episodes, the same amount at the first two seasons of the show. The June 8 premiere is right in line with the show's previous seasons which debuted with a similar time frame.
