The Incredibles 2 plot, release date may be pushed back because of Disney Pixar's full schedule

A sequel to Disney Pixar's beloved animated hit 'The Incredibles' is currently in development, though details regarding the film are still minimal at this point in time. Announced officially over a year ago via Disney Pixar's official Twitter account, the film will be written by the original film's director Brad Bird, though it is unclear at this point if he will also direct the film.

In recent times, Bird has been branching out to live action film making and found success with the Tom Cruise starrer 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol'. The director's next project is the upcoming 'Tomorrowland' starring George Clooney. Still, Bird has a strong working relationship with Disney and is expected to play a strong developmental role in 'The Incredibles 2' no matter if he is named the director or not.

Bird had been vocal in the past about wanting a strong premise for a potential sequel to 'The Incredibles' rather than just rehashing old content. His active involvement in the upcoming sequel should reassure Pixar fans that have lamented the lack of more original content. Pixar has been developing more sequels as of late, with projects such as 'Cars 3' and 'Finding Nemo 2' currently in development, and sequels to 'Monsters, Inc.' and 'Cars' already released in the past few years.

As Bird previously stated via an article at The Hollywood Reporter, "I am stroking my chin and scratching my head. I have many, many elements that I think would work really well in another Incredibles film, and if I can get 'em to click all together, I would probably wanna do that."

A release date has yet to be given for 'The Incredibles 2', and given Pixar's busy schedule in the next few years, it doesn't look like it will be coming any time soon. This year alone, Pixar is scheduled to release 'Inside Out, and 'The Good Dinosaur' followed by 'Finding Dory' the following year. Pixar previously released only one movie every year.
