'The Legend of Korra' panel at the upcoming SDCC: will a book 5 be added to the series?

(Nickelodeon)

The San Diego Comic-Con is only a few weeks away so it really is not surprising that enthusiasts are already talking about the shows, movies and comics that have confirmed their appearance at the widely-attended conference.

This year, the convention has released a list of over 20 panels, much to the excitement of devotees who frequent SDCC every year. Amongst the most talked about is the inclusion of the recently concluded "The Legend of Korra" to the program.

"The Legend of Korra," which first debuted in 2012, is a Nickelodeon animated television series, whose timeline is set after the events that happened in the highly-successful "Avatar: The Last Airbender." It follows the adventures of the titular character, Korra, as she comes to terms with the revelation that she is the reincarnation of Aang, the previous "Avatar."

Despite the difficulty of the show to secure a timeslot, "The Legend of Korra" still received positive reviews from both critics and casual viewers. It has 100% approval rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and has won IGN's People's Choice Awards three times in a row. The show's success has led to it branching off from the initially conceived 12 mini-episodes to a four season run, which ended last year in June.

The series ended in quite a culminating manner with the lead character riding off into the metaphorical sunset with a friend, as peace on earth has been restored. With the finale having no loose ends, the inclusion of the show to the list of panels on this year's SDCC comes as a surprise. At the onset of the announcement, hopes of "The Legend of Korra Book 5" have been reignited.

While there has not been an announcement on what the show's creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, would be talking about come SDCC, a recent interview with Konietzko is giving fans hope that another Avatar series is not impossible.

"I don't know that they have any plans to do such a thing, but we still love the world. I'm sure they would talk to us about it, I would hope, before decisions were made. Have to cross that bridge when we got there." said DiMartino in a report by ScreenCrush.

"The Legend of Korra" panel at the San Diego Comic Con would be on the convention's second day, July 10, 2015.
