MTV has yet to announce the premiere of the second installment of its groundbreaking fantasy TV series "The Shannara Chronicles," which made its debut in January of 2016. The renewal of season 2 was announced in October last year after the first season gathered good ratings and reviews from critics and viewers alike. There are speculations that the network might release season 2 in the summer this year.

"The Shannara Chronicles" revolves around the story of three young individuals that include the Elvin princess and one of the seven Chosen, Amberle Elessedil (Poppy Drayton), an aspiring Healer and half elf, half human Wil Ohmsford (Austin Butler), and the Rover, Eretria (Ivana Baquero). Destiny brings the three unsuspecting individuals together in a quest to save the Ellcrys, a tree formed through the bonding of earth and life and has the ability to hold demons from being released on the Earth, with the help of a druid named Allanon (Manu Bennett).

The TV series also puts a lot of emphasis on family as that is what the book "The Elfstones of Shannara" is all about. The series is an adaptation of Terry Brooks' fantasy series and the author specifically requested that the emphasis on family be retained by showrunners.

"They're a family-oriented fantasy and always have been. That's been one of the strong selling points," Brooks said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Anyone from 10 years of age up that has the reading skills can read these books. We've always talked about it as a family drama that anyone can watch. I thought of it as a straight adaptation. I told Al and Miles early on, 'I know you're going to have to make changes. Just hold the bones of the story together.'"

There are a lot of expectations for the show's season 2 as "Teen Wolf" is finally coming to a conclusion after six seasons. Reports are hinting that "The Shannara Chronicles" and "Scream" season 3 will become MTV's hottest shows after "Teen Wolf."

In another interview, Brooks revealed that there are ongoing discussions with MTV executives as to whether season 2 of the show will pick up where season 1 ended or simply jump right into "The Wishsong of Shannara." Apparently, MTV is eyeing a different approach to season 2.

"This is an interesting debate that's ongoing. When I first saw this I thought, 'Well, we should just move on and do a whole new season that involves the next book and forget about this season,' Brooks said in an interview with SciFiNow. "But of course MTV said, 'Are you crazy? We're building fan support for these actors, we can't boot them out of there and bring all-new people in!' And I said, 'Well, they could be the same characters, just the children or whatever' that didn't work."
