"The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Caroline Dries revealed that the head of newest organization in Mystic Falls is connected to Enzo's backstory.

"As Enzo is trying to find his place in this world, Alex comes in," explained Dries in an interview with TV Line. She added that the succeeding episodes will reveal Alex's bigger agenda.

The episode titled "Moonlight on the Bayou" is also another crossover with its spinoff, "The Originals." The first crossover was in season 3 of the spinoff series.

The episode's plot was shared on Spoilers Guide. Stefan goes to New Orleans to protect his friends and Mystic Falls from a new vampire hunter named Rayna Cruz. He seeks the help of Valerie, who takes him to a safe house. There, he meets his friend Klaus, who belongs to the original vampire family simply known as the Originals. As for the rest of Mystic Falls, the synopsis says, "Meanwhile, Enzo, who is working on behalf of a mysterious organization called The Armory, approaches Damon and Bonnie with a plan that could protect Stefan from Rayna. Finally, after learning that Alaric has decided to leave for Dallas with the twins immediately, Caroline offers to accompany them on the trip and finds herself contemplating her own future in Mystic Falls."

With the second half of the season currently airing, no news of another season in the works has come up. Lead star and guest director Ian Somerhalder may have hinted at a last season in an interview with ET Online. When asked how many seasons there are left, Somerhalder acknowledges the speculations surrounding their show and that at the moment, they are working on making the current season a really good one.

He said, "We just want to get through this year and make it good and we'll see what comes about." Somerhalder is set to direct epiosode 16 of the current season.
