'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 spoilers, news: Elena to appear in upcoming episodes?

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 may see Elena's return

The premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 showed a lot of how the gang will try to keep Elena's memory alive despite the fact that she's somewhere in a deep slumber and only time will tell when she will awaken.

Moving forward, it is unclear if she will ever be seen in a physical and "alive" form but showrunner Julie Plec tells TVLine that Nina Dobrev's Elena "has a very strong presence this season, in the entire season." As seen in episode 1 titled "Hello Brother," Bonnie (Kat Graham), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice King) are writing in a journal about how they feel for Elena.

Plec explains that in the journal for Elena, everyone will have the chance to write their messages to her. Does this mean that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will also wake up to reality and remember his love for Elena through the journal? Another question is, when will Elena return and how? For now, fans can keep hoping that she will make a comeback with a bang, probably to get Damon out of this trance.

Meanwhile, the first episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 had some seriously interesting bits of stories that could helm the final installment of the hit series. Caroline and Alaric (Matthew Davis) are still trying to cope with co-parenting and they managed to get a mysterious but beautiful nanny who, according to TV Fanatic, may be a member of the Gemini coven and is out to get the twins into their real world.

Kristen Gutoskie's Seline is definitely a huge mystery for now but it is expected that more of her secrets will be revealed in the upcoming episodes. Does she have a secret that could endanger the young twins? If yes, how will Alaric and Caroline ensure that their girls are safe and will live lives as normal as possible?

Meanwhile, fans were also introduced to "evil herself," Nathalie Kelley's Sybil. It seems that she has a connection to Alaric and Caroline's twins but this has yet to be confirmed. If she does want the girls and some other characters, it's easy to conclude that viewers will be in for a lot of action and thrills as the elders of Mystic Falls will try to protect the youngsters from getting in deep trouble.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 airs Fridays, 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
