'The Vampire Diaries' season 8B updates, release date: Stefan turns off his humanity; Caroline attempts to save him

The final season of The CW's supernatural drama TV series "The Vampire Diaries" just recently went into a short break, and fans have to wait until February to catch the second half. However, viewers don't have to wait that long to know what will happen to the well-loved characters of Mystic Falls.

(Facebook/The Vampire Diaries)Stefan will be taking a huge risk in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 8 as he drugs Damon and sends him to sleep.

In a trailer for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 8, Stefan's (Paul Wesley) current predicament is making it even harder for Caroline (Candice King) to save him.

To recap the fall finale, the younger Salvatore brother agreed to turn off his humanity while serving Cade (Wolé Parks). After causing so much trouble, the older Salvatore brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), on the other hand, finally got a taste of his humanity. When Caroline surprised him with his late girlfriend Elena's (Nina Dobrev) necklace, he snapped and decided to rip out the heart of the siren Sybil (Nathalie Kelley).

But as teased in the clip, Damon's little stunt will not be able to do permanent damage on Sybil. The trailer shows her pretty much alive and annoyed. Furthermore, somehow, Stefan will be able to catch Damon and lock him up in what looks like a hospital. Although it is uncertain, it seems as if Stefan will drug his older brother to prevent him from wreaking havoc. As shown in the trailer, Damon will appeal to his younger brother, but Stefan's heartless ripper self will not show mercy.

When asked about the present situation with King's on-screen children, she told E! Online, "I'm sure there are opportunities for FaceTime, but in the series it'll be more about Caroline needing to focus on Mystic Falls and finding and helping Stefan throughout this deal that he's made." To note, the twins are currently with their father, Alaric (Matthew Davis).

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 returns on Feb. 10, Friday, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
