'The Walking Dead' season 7 news, updates: Photos tease new character and location

Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his family of survivors are expected to retaliate against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Saviors. Will Rick be able to convince The Hilltop and The Kingdom to take up arms? Or will Rick find a new colony to fight by his side?

Shortly after the official season 7B synopsis revealed, "We'll meet new survivors in incredible places," Entertainment Weekly teased a photo of Rick and the group in a new location with an unfamiliar character. Perhaps the latest photo revealed by Entertainment Weekly is the reason behind Lincoln's excitement for the second half of season 7.

Fans can't get a good look of the actress portraying the new character, as the photograph only reveals her backside. So far, the network has also not said anything about the recent tease. Nevertheless, viewers can get a close view of what seems to be the unidentified survivor's community. The photograph reveals a junkyard setting. Entertainment Weekly speculates that the person could have ties with the stranger spying on Alexandria in the midseason finale.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple had little to say about the latest character. But he did reveal that Rick will have a pretty brief meeting with this person. "The answers are just around the heap. I cannot wait for people to meet this character and to see this actor. There is some formidable fun coming up," Gimple said.

The second half of "The Walking Dead" season 7 is going to be less heart-wrenching than the first few episodes of the show, as Rick and the citizens of Alexandria will muster the courage to go against the Saviors. As what Lincoln teased, the thrill of the fight will be returning. In a particular scene in episode 16, Lincoln saw a moment of triumph that even made him do a little jig.

"The Walking Dead" is currently in a brief hiatus, but new season 7 episodes will premiere on AMC on Feb. 12, Sunday, at 9 p.m. EST.
