'The Walking Dead' season 7 premiere spoilers: Norman Reedus on Daryl Dixon's state

(Facebook / The Walking Dead)"The Walking Dead" season 6 ended with an intense cliffhanger and viewers cannot wait to watch the premiere of "The Walking Dead" season 7.

Viewers of the show are not eager to see one of their beloved characters die but are excited to know who was at the receiving end of the bat. Daryl Dixon is one of the possible fatalities, and actor Norman Reedus talks about his character's state in the finale.

Aside from being one of those on his knees along with others who could have been hit, Daryl was severely wounded. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Reedus said, "He's been shot in the shoulder, in the top part of his lung. There's a wheezing there. He's lost a lot of blood. He's hanging on by a thread. I feel like he's at his most vulnerable state, right there." He continued, "Negan has the numbers and it doesn't look like it's something they're gonna get out of. He doesn't really have the strength to fight. I think that's ahard position for Daryl to be in. I don't think he's used to that. So yeah, he was very afraid."

Daryl is one of those characters who do not appear in the comic version of the series. Reedus originally auditioned for the role of Merle Dixon, Daryl's older brother. He was also meant to be just a recurring character but was promoted to series regular by the second season. Such is his appeal among the viewers that it would be hard to imagine Reedus' character to be killed off.

Season 7 of "The Walking Dead" will premiere late this year, and filming is still underway. Fans who have been to the shooting location have taken to social media to share that there have been sightings of a very much alive Daryl. It is suggested though that he remains captive of Negan's group.

Those involved in the series continue to be tight-lipped about the reveal. Viewers are assured that season 7's first episode will pick up right where season 6 left. The victim will be known right away.

"The Walking Dead" season 7 returns in October.
