'The Winds of Winter' release date, latest news, update: GRRM finally mentions 'TWOW' after months of silence

(Reuters/ Robert Galbraith)Will GRRM deliver 'The Winds of Winter' after 'a good few months?'

George R.R. Martin has done it again. The world-famous author has finally given an update about the developments in his highly anticipated novel "The Winds of Winter." His silence for some months has led fans to believe that he may be focusing on other projects.

Martin told fans through a note on his blog that he will be holding a book signing event in Mexico and this will be his last appearance for the year. By the end of his note, Martin said: "This is my last scheduled event for 2016. My appearance schedule for 2017 is very limited, and will remain so until WINDS is completed. So if you want to meet me or get a book signed, this will be the last chance for a good few months..."

That being said, Mic notes that a 2017 launch for "The Winds of Winter" may be closer now. Though previous reports have said that GRRM will release the book sometime early 2017, the safest bet may be sometime next year. This is because the sixth installment in the author's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series will need to go through final editing stages before it is released.

It can also be safe to assume that "The Winds of Winter" will be out in retail stores before "Game of Thrones" season 7 premieres. Production is well underway for the new installment and the show is expected to return sometime mid-2017.

Comic Book says it is worth noting that Martin said there are still "a good few months" left for "TWOW" to be completed so it is best to stick with the aged author's declaration that he will be delivering the book whenever it's done.

"The Winds of Winter" was supposed to be released before "Game of Thrones" season 6 aired but Martin asked for more time. It is unclear when the book will hit bookshelves, but for now, fans can hope that Martin will deliver in "a good few months."
