Fresh off the Balticon held in Baltimore, Maryland, George R.R. Martin has unfortunately acquired a bug during the event and his condition has sparked rumors that "The Winds of Winter" will further be delayed

In a post on his blog dated June 8th, the famous author revealed that he has returned home but is sick. "Great trip...but I seem to have brought the plague home with me. Some kind of con crud was going around at Balticon...coughing, fever, headache, congestion, more coughing. I got it too, albeit a milder case," he wrote.

Martin's assistant, Jo, also acquired the virus, as well as Lezli Robyn. Another assistant, Lenore, was later plagued too. "We're all still under the weather, though recovering," Martin assured his fans.

However, the "A Song of Ice and Fire" writer made it clear that he doesn't have the energy to report at this time as he needs lots of sleep and fluids to regain his stamina. Followers have sent wishes of good will for the author and many said they would love to hear more of the book's development once he fully recovers.

Vine Report suggests that fans may have to wait longer for additional updates on the progress of "The Winds of Winter," now that Martin is recovering from an illness. The book has already been delayed for months and readers are getting more anxious as "Game of Thrones" continues to push through with its sixth season.

Martin previously apologized for the delay, especially since he himself expected that he would be able to produce the complete output before "Game of Thrones" season six airs. However, the said season is already airing and there's still no copy of "The Winds of Winter."

Meanwhile, there is a lot of talk online regarding the possible plot of the new installment from Martin's prominent series. Some suggest that Jon Snow's lineage will finally be revealed, while many others are trying to pick up on the latest revelations that were discussed in the chapter that was unveiled recently.

In Vulture's breakdown of the revelations that the new chapter provided, it is said that readers will learn more about Aeron Greyjoy and his miserable life. Bound by his brother, Euron, and sometimes tortured, fans should expect a lot of emotional pages when the novel releases.

For now, fans can only hope that Martin gets well soon so he can complete the book and release it before television spoils anything.
