For years, fans have been waiting for George R.R. Martin to officially announce a release date for the sixth book from the "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga, "The Winds of Winter." The TV adaptation, "Game of Thrones" has already overtaken Martin's books, but still, fans are left clueless as to when the sixth book will arrive.

However, recent reports have surfaced stating that Martin has already submitted the completed work to a publishing house and fans can get their hands on a copy in a few months.

While this piece of news should be a reason for fans to celebrate, it is still not confirmed as Martin didn't make an official announcement.

"The Winds of Winter's" release has been delayed several times already and Martin admitted that he can be a pretty slow writer. But the 67-year-old critically-acclaimed author is determined to finish the book as soon as possible.

"I wish it was out now. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish," Martin told Entertainment Weekly last year. "But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done," he continued.

With "Game of Thrones" season 6 already airing on HBO, some fans worry that there might be spoilers for the book. However, the author gave his reassurance that what happens in the TV series might not happen in the book.

Martin had already revealed that a major plot twist will happen in the book. He said that a character has already died on the TV adaptation, but in the book, that character is very much alive.

As of this moment, Martin cannot confirm when he will finish the book and release it. It still remains to be seen how far along he is or how many pages he has completed. Fans will just have to wait for more updates.
