George R.R. Martin recently celebrated the anniversary of "A Game of Thrones," the first book in the epic fantasy novel series titled "A Song of Ice and Fire." To commemorate 20 years of success of the franchise, the 67-year-old critically acclaimed author announced that he'll be releasing a new book.

Martin delivered the news via a LiveJournal entry, Unfortunately for fans who have been clamoring for the release of the sixth book, "The Winds of Winter," this is yet another disappointing wait as the new book Martin has teased is a special edition of "A Game of Thrones."

There has yet to be an official announcement as to when "The Winds of Winter" will get released. The HBO series "Game of Thrones," which is based on the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series, already wrapped up its sixth season, but fans still don't know when to expect the next book. Martin was blunt about the delay and wrote that he is currently working on the sixth book. He even wrote, "and no, sorry, I have no announcement to make on that front."

After the author missed his planned release date of December 2015, Newsweek contacted him and his publishing editor for an update. The author told the publication that the book "will be done when it's done," suggesting that fans will continue wondering about the status of the book.

Recently, there have been speculations that Martin will release the much anticipated book at the World Science Fiction Convention, which will take place this month. However, this, too, is highly unlikely. As reported in The Daily Telegraph, Martin's publisher HarperCollins issued a statement saying, "There's no denying millions of fans want it. But we don't know when it will happen. We know George is busy writing it and we will announce the publication date once he finishes."

"The Winds of Winter's" release date remains uncertain at this point. What's certain, though, is that once Martin completes the book, it will be a huge publishing event.
