'The Witcher' movie release date; closed Android beta sign-up starts

A new 'The Witcher' movie has entered early production, and Oscar-nominated director and animator Tomasz Baginski is directing the full-length big screen adaptation.

"We have started to prepare for the production of a full-length live-action feature film 'the Witcher,' for which responsibility will be Tom Baginski and Platige crew Films. A scenario based on Andrzej Sapkowski's prose," confirmed by Platige Image Studio on Facebook.

Platige Image has been responsible for special effects of major Polish productions which include Lars von Trier's "Antichrist," Jerzy Skolimowski's "Essential Killing" and Andrzej Wajda's "Katyn."

The studio specializes in 3D animation, digital special effects and computer graphics.

Baginski was nominated for an Oscar in 2003 for "The Cathedral," an animated short film.

He was also the genius behind the cinematic intros of "The Witcher" and "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings."

There was no details dropped regarding the cast of the movie.

The Witcher is a popular series of short stories and novels penned by Andrzej Sapkowski, which centers on a dark mythical universe plagued with beasts and leviathans.

The "witchers" are characters with supernatural abilities trained and enhanced to combat the monsters.

One of the most successful adaptations of the novel has been found in the video gaming realm via CD Projekt Red's "The Witcher" franchise.

Speaking of the game, the closed beta for The Witcher: Battle Arena mobile MOBA is rolling out for Android users.

Battle Arena's gameplay trailer has just been recently previewed.

The beta program will allow players to access eight heroes that can be played in two maps: The Arena and Korath Desert.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on the other hand, is coming to various gaming consoles on February 24, 2015, after a few months of delays and pushbacks.

There's also The Witcher Adventure Game, a card game that is presently in alpha phase.
