'Thor 3: Ragnarok' release date, plot and storyline spoilers: God of Thunder to face Thanos

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" had raised a lot of questions about Thor. The "God of Thunder" was last seen on his way to Asgard after the Avengers won their final battle against Ultron. He was exposed to the powers of the Scarlett Witch early in the film and saw a vision of his home, Asgard, and his companions going to hell. Thor's search for truth continues in 2017 in Marvel's upcoming film, "Thor: Ragnarok."

The third phase of Marvel Studio's MCU films begins next year with "Captain America: Civil War." The planned collection of 10 superhero movies include the much awaited two-part "Avengers: Infinity Wars," set to be released in 2018 and 2019. The fifth movie and midway point of phase three, "Thor: Ragnarok," is rumored to be the most influential in setting the events for the next "Avengers" movies. During the announcement of the film, Marvel's Kevin Feige stated, "Thor: Ragnarok" is a very important movie in phase three. We plan on taking Thor to another level. It picks up where we leave Thor in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and impacts everything that comes after."

The term "Ragnarok," in the context of Marvel comics, refers to two things: The first is the name given to a clone of Thor created by scientists Dr. Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) and Dr. Hank Pym (Ant-Man), who first appeared in Marvel Comics' "Civil War" storyline. And the second is a cycle of events that fall upon Asgard, with the most recent one leading to the destruction of the realm and the disappearance of Thor, and the second being the most probable basis for the upcoming film.

The "Ragnarok" storyline features the fire demon Surtur — a new villain who could be introduced in the upcoming film, according to an article by Slashfilm. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) could also come face to face with Thanos himself, as it is known that one of the Infinity Stones is kept in Asgard (The Teserract). Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the architect of Ragnarok in the comics, will also return as Thor's nemesis and was last seen disguised as Thor's father and Asgard's king, Odin.

Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok" is the third solo film featuring the "God of Thunder" and is scheduled to hit the big screen on November 3, 2017.
