The redevelopment project known worldwide as 'The Times Square Transformation' started in 2012, and is expected be finished by 2016. The project's main goal is to ensure that Times Square is designed to reflect its bold, cutting-edge spirit. The re-development was designed by Snohetta, with consultation by the Times Square Alliance and the Department of Transportation.

Alongside Times Square, other cultural destinations that tops the list are the Niagara Falls in North America, the Eiffel Tower, the Musee du Louvre, the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, the Taj Mahal Mausoleum in Agra, India, the Empire State Building, the British Museum in London, the Coliseum in Italy, and the Grand Canyon National Park.
