Politician Rob Ford has been admitted to a hospital after doctors found a tumor near his abdomen.

According to hospital officials, the Toronto mayor has been battling stomach pains for months. Ford has just finished rehabilitation for 2 months in a facility for his ailment, and was admitted to the emergency department of the Humber River Hospital on Wednesday.

According to Dr. Rueben Devlin, Humber River's chief executive officer, the doctors that examined Ford had confirmed the existence of the tumor. Devlin did not disclose further information about the Toronto mayor's prognosis, but commented that the patient will need further examination and investigation.

"He was having left lower quadrant abdominal pain, and as we said, it's been going on for greater than three months but today it became unbearable," Devlin said, according to LA Times.

City Councilor Doug Ford, the mayor's brother, has requested journalists and reporters to keep their distance and respect their family's privacy during this sensitive and trying time.

"It saddens me that I have to be here today, and Rob's in good spirits and I just want to thank the well-wishers for all the calls that are coming in," the City Councilor said.

Ford recalled that he shared breakfast with his brother on Wednesday without the mayor complaining about abdominal pain, though he did confirm that the mayor was having stomach pains in the past months.
