According to one of the show's producers, 'True Detective' Season 2 will feature three cop leads and one of them is a female cop.

The California setting has also been confirmed. HBO's Programming Head, Mike Lombardo, revealed some information about the upcoming season of the critically-acclaimed show.

"[It has] different characters, a different setting. It's set in California, all of California. There are three cops. One of the characters is female. I think that's probably all I'm allowed to say," Lombardo told Hollywood Reporter during the Guardian International Television Festival in Edinburgh.

Lombardo added that he has already read some of the script written by Pizzolatto, and assured fans that the upcoming season will be more interesting, though not as "dark" as the last one.

"The writing is better than last season. It's exceptional," Lombardo added. He continued, "It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride. Nic likes looking into the crevices of the soul."

Lombardo did not disclose on who will play the three cop leads, though there have been reported that the actors being considered are Vince Vaughn, Elisabeth Moss, and Colin Ferrell.

Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey played Detectives Marty Hart and Rust Cohle in Season 1.
