Tom Hanks has officially joined the mobile app business via his "Hanx Writer" app for iPad.

"With Hanx Writer, you'll hear the rhythm of your work with SHOOK SHOOK or FITT-FITT" the award-winning actor quipped.

"There's also the opportunity here to take your iPad to a coffee house and be really obnoxious with all the clickety-clacking," the 58-year old Hanks told USA TODAY.

Born out of Hanks and Hitcents collaboration, the app recreates the sound and experience of using a manual typewriter back in the day.

While holding on to the authentic typewriter feel, they injected the new-fashioned elements such as the DELETE key, which would have been dream come true for writers some decades ago.

Each document created using the Hanx Writer app can be emailed, printed and shared with unique statement-making personality.

Hanx Writer gives that nostalgia for the generation that lived through the era of typewriters.

Surprisingly, it also appeals to younger users.

"I cannot say that this app gives me the literal touch and smell, or weight of the keys that I typewriter would, but everything else has allowed me to get as close to the experience as possible. I found myself typing away into my thoughts, listening to the sound of the keys," a user named Odicous noted in a feedback posted in iTunes.

Hanx Writer app is free, but extends three upgrade in-app purchases for more features and themes.

These include Hanx 707 ($2.99) that supports blue and red ribbon colors, Hanx Golden Touch ($2.99) that supports alignment and ability to create title pages with photos and Writer's Block Bundle ($4.99) that features both Hanx 707 and Hanx Golden Touch.

The app is only compatible for iPad at the moment, for iOS 7 or later.
