After the midseason finale of "Vikings" in April, the show will be doing a time leap for the other half of the season. Thus, everyone will appear older after the midseason break. Moreover, new characters will be introduced in "Vikings" season 4b.

To recap, in the first half of season 4, Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) lost in battle.

It's important to note that, in Viking culture, if the leader somehow failed to accomplish his duties, he could have easily gotten himself killed or replaced by his people. However, things were different for Ragnar who was the most famous Viking in Scandinavia.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Vikings" creator Michael Hirst revealed that Ragnar will be coming home this season. Although he went away, he will find himself drawn towards home. Hirst said that Ragnar will be coming home because he wants to know what had happened to his sons. In addition, he wants to bring his people to Wessex, England.

The fourth season of the "Vikings" will be about Ragnar rekindling past ties and rebuilding relationships with his loved ones.

Aside from this, viewers will also be seeing new relationships in season 4. One, in particular, is the relationship between Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and her new lover Astrid (Josefin Asplund). Astrid is a new female character in the show who will be introduced in the upcoming season. According to Hirst, Lagertha's failed relationships with men is why she's now involved with a woman. Man's constant desire to bring her down is what drew her to Astrid who is, as Hirst says, "not going want to do that — at least initially."

Hirst says that viewers will see Astrid in the episode where Ragnar comes home. Ragnar will go to Lagertha's house to see her. During his visit, he meets Astrid who will appear to be teasing him. According to Hirst, Ragnar will like Astrid's "modern character."

Although Lagertha has a new love life, she will be seeking revenge for the death of her husband in the upcoming season. As seen in the trailer of "Vikings" season 4b, Lagertha told Aslaug, "I will never forgive you for taking away my husband, my world, and my happiness."

Fans of "Vikings" don't need to wait that long for season 4b. The other half of season 4 is expected to premiere in fall.
