Season five of AMC's 'The Walking Dead' may be over following its season finale earlier this week, but series chief Scott Gimple has made sure that fans will have something to talk about in the coming months as the show goes off the air. As reported in this article at Entertainment Weekly, Gimple conveyed via a written note submitted to 'Talking Dead' host Chris Hardwick on their overall plans for the upcoming sixth season.

Gimple explained that for the longest time, humans (rather than the zombies) have been the bigger threat in the post-apocalyptic society. He said, "At the start of our next season, that will change. I said the show reinvents itself every 8 eps, and we're doing it again, friendos. Now that these characters know they have what it takes to survive, what are they going to do with that power? How will they choose to live? Beyond answering those questions, we're currently putting into motion some of our most ambitious stuff yet, and things are going to get very big, loud and scary."

The exact mechanics of the new status quo was not revealed, but speculation now points to the zombies (or another as of yet unidentified threat) rising to the forefront once again. Whatever happens, Gimple's tease of a bigger, louder, and scarier 'Walking Dead' bodes well for the show's continued success as it attempt to upend the overall malaise that has plagued the show in recent memory.

In related news, actor Norman Reedus (Daryl) revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that although he is unaware of Gimple's exact plans regarding the new threats for the upcoming season, he is still excited at what's to come for the long running series. "I do know what Scott has planned is going to be epic," he said.

An exact release date for the sixth season has not been set, but it expected to once again run for sixteen episodes, as with the previous three seasons.
