'Wayward Pines' season 3 release date, spoilers: Upcoming season still uncertain, may feature 1,000-year time jump

(Facebook/Wayward Pines)There is a good chance for "Wayward Pines" to be picked up for another season, according to Fox CEO Dana Walden.

Although the fate of "Wayward Pines" season 3 is still up in the air as of this writing, various rumors and speculations have surfaced on how its story may pan out in season 3.

It has been learned that "Wayward Pines" writers are coming up with a completely different story for the still uncertain season 3 of the Fox series as the two books where the TV series is based have already been tackled in the first two seasons of the show. After all, with the season 2 of "Wayward Pines" ending how it did, there are a lot of angles that the series can explore for a possible plot for its season 3; that is, if it gets one.

Other sources say that, in the event that "Wayward Pines" gets renewed for another season, fans can expect the series to feature a time jump, possibly thousand years after the events in the season 2 finale of the Fox series. Allegedly, it is possible for the series to feature Abbies and humans no longer fighting but co-existing in the said Idaho town.

Despite the uncertainty, though, things are looking good for "Wayward Pines" as far as its third season is concerned. After all, no less than Fox CEO and Television Group chairman Dana Walden had said earlier that there is a possibility for the series to be renewed for another season run.

"I definitely think there could be a Season 3. It's still the No. 1 scripted show of the summer," said Walden during the Television Critics Association summer press tour earlier this month.

While it's true that the average rating of the season 2 of "Wayward Pines" was relatively lower than what its season 1 registered, its season 2 finale saw a spike of more than 50 percent in the DVR playbacks. When all numbers are factored in, that's the only time Fox can rule on the fate of the series.

"We don't know yet what we're going to find when the multi-platform numbers roll up, ultimately how big that audience (can be)," Walden said in the same event.
