'Wayward Pines' season 3 renewal considered by FOX, meets up with series creator, producer

(Facebook/WaywardPines)"Wayward Pines" may be given a season 3.

Fans of "Wayward Pines" are hopeful that the series will be renewed for a third season. New updates point out to FOX giving the green light to executive producer M. Night Shyamalan and series creator Chad Hodge to continue the storyline.

The last installment of the sci-fi series ended with a cliffhanger. In the final scene, viewers caught a glimpse of an Abby holding what appeared to be a human baby. Shyamalan has been vocal about his thoughts on the renewal, stating that this would give them the chance to tie up the loose ends in the plot. Hodge also revealed his plans for season 3 earlier on. As per Game N Guide, FOX CEO Dana Walden recently revealed that the pair is already working closely with the network to determine the show's fate.

If the series will be given another chance, rumors claim that some of the old characters would return to help the new ones out with their predicament. The Abbies are getting more dangerous than ever, only biding their time until they can penetrate the protective walls separating the humans from them.

Season 1 saw Matt Dillon's Ethan Burke taking the helm, whereas the next featured Jason Patric (Theo Yedlin) and Djimon Hounsou (CJ Mitchum). Which character will make a comeback?

Meanwhile, author Blake Crouch had already revealed in July what he wanted to happen in the third season of the show. He told Entertainment Weekly that the scene showing the Abby with the human-like baby would be a pivotal part of the new story arc. According to Crouch, this would be the series' own take of human evolution. Although the baby looked like a human, he said that it was not really the case. It is possible, he teased, that the Abbies have evolved as well.

"Evolution has always pushed forward, and [the scene] suggests that the Abbies are changing also. The Abbies will evolve into something else. And we wanted to just drop the notion that perhaps when these residents of Wayward Pines emerge from the pods, they're going to find a very different world than the ones they left behind," Crouch said in his interview.
