'Wolverine 3' plot news, rumors: other familiar faces to appear?

(Facebook/HughJackman)"Wolverine 3" is said to feature familiar faces from the "X-Men" originals and previous "Wolverine" films

When news of "Wolverine 3" emerged last year, fans were both excited and also saddened as Hugh Jackman announced that it will be the third and last time he will take on the iconic role.

As production rolls on for the highly anticipated film, many are wondering just how star-studded the film will be and if it will take much of its plot from "Old Man Logan." Last year, Jackman asked his fans what they wanted for the third installment of the hit franchise.

As expected, a majority of the votes cast pointed to "Old Man Logan," the Mark Millar creation that has largely become a favorite among comic book readers.

Earlier this year, photos of the set were leaked for fans to see. In the images, Patrick Stewart's Professor X was seen being pushed in a wheelchair by Jackman's Logan. While the photos have indirectly confirmed Stewart's appearance in the movie, talk has also been ignited regarding the potential appearance of other "Wolverine" and even "X-Men" stars.

According to Movie News Guide, it would be nice to see some original "X-Men" members giving their old pal a hand. If things turn out as fans want them to, Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Cyclops (James Marsden), Storm (Halle Berry), Rogue (Anna Paquin), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) and many others may make cameo appearances.

It is also expected that new villains will be featured in "Wolverine 3." In the comics, there are a good number of entities who are getting more and more interested in Logan's powers and abilities. Though it has yet to be seen what the writers will do with the plot, it would be nice to see new characters trying to get on Logan's nerves.

Finally, there's the speculation that the upcoming film will be R-rated. As Cinema Blend put it earlier this year, "Old Man Logan" centers around violence and Logan's guilt over the deaths of his former "X-Men" team mates. An R-rating would be best to depict the story of a fallen hero who will take on his claws one last time for the epic revenge.

"Wolverine 3" is slated to hit big screens on March 3, 2017.
