'Wolverine 3' release date news and spoilers: Director teases futuristic setting for 'Logan'

(Facebook/TheWolverineMovie)The third 'Wolverine' film, 'Logan,' will premiere on March 3.

After the recent reveal of the new "X-Men" film "Logan," fans are excited to see Hugh Jackman's iconic character back on the big screens.

The trailer for the movie was recently released, showcasing Wolverine in his older years. The video clip presented a different vibe when compared to the previous installments of the "Wolverine" franchise. With that, there is a lot of anticipation for its release.

Viewers can expect to see Old Man Logan, which is a character well-known in the comics. He will be joined by Patrick Stewart's Professor X, whose powers are also deteriorating due to old age. The story will be set in the future in order to see older characters' portrayals.

Fortunately, the director of the film, James Mangold, was able to shed some light on their decision to give the story a futuristic feel.

In an interview with Empire, Mangold explained: "We are in the future, we have passed the point of the epilogue of Days Of Future Past."

The director added: "We're finding all these characters in circumstances that are a little more real. The questions of aging, of loneliness, of where I belong. Am I still useful to the world?"

With that, the upcoming storyline is expected to explore the idea of being useful as a hero despite being old. Fans will see both characters struggling with their purpose, which will surely bring an interesting narrative to the big screens. That said, Logan will see some changes in his healing capabilities.

In the same interview, Mangold teased: "So we imagined he heals quickly, still, but it leaves a scar. The simple idea was that his body would start to get a little more ravaged with a kind of tattooing of past battles, lacerations that remain of previous conflicts."

"Wolverine" fans can expect an emotional film as they bid farewell to Jackman's portrayal of the character. There are also rumors that this will be Stewart's last film with the franchise.

"Logan" opens in U.S. theaters on March 3, 2017.
