'Wolverine 3' rumors: an X-Men character to die and be replaced by X-23

(Facebook/Wolverine)Will Wolverine die in "Wolverine 3" and be replaced by X-23?

Although Hugh Jackman already confirmed in last year's San Diego Comic-Con that the upcoming "Wolverine 3" will adapt the "Old Man Logan" comic book storyline, there are still some people who are wondering if it would really be the case. However, with the latest photos of Jackman surfacing that show him sporting a look similar to how the character is drawn in the comic book for the said storyline, there is no more denying that the character will, indeed, be seen in his aging version in next year's "Wolverine 3."

"I've got three words for you guys: Old Man Logan. As I promised, this next time is my last time putting on the claws, it's one last time," said Jackman in last year's Comic Con.

As X-Men fans have long wanted "Old Man Logan" to be adapted to the big screen, it goes without saying that "Wolverine 3" is an answered prayer for them. As Jackman has also declared that the forthcoming movie will be the last time for him to be seen as the clawed X-Men character, it is now strongly speculated that "Wolverine 3" will take the opportunity to introduce another beloved comic book character who will continue the claw-fighting power of Wolverine, X-23, as the former will be killed in the final installment of the "Wolverine" movies.

In the event that X-23 will finally be given a live-action treatment in the movies and fill the void Wolverine will leave, it shouldn't really be surprising as she possesses all other traits and powers of Wolverine, such as superhuman strength, agility, and the ability to self-heal. The only thing that sets her apart from Wolverine, apart from being female, is that, instead of three metal claws that emerge from each of her hands, she only has two. Also, unlike wolverine, she also has the ability to spring one metal claw from each of her feet.

Apart from getting killed and being eventually replaced by X-23, it is also believed that "Wolverine 3's" big bad may have already been revealed in the recently released "X-Men: Apocalypse." In the closing credits of the said movie, which was shown last May, a character is seen collecting the spilt blood of Wolverine and placed it in a vial with a label "weapon X." Then, the character places the vial in a suitcase that, upon closing, is revealed to be a property of Essex Corp, which is owned by Nathaniel Essex, popularly known as Mister Sinister in the X-Men comic books.

Can fans expect a showdown of might and power between Wolverine and Mister Sinister? Will Wolverine really die and be replaced by X-23? Find out when "Wolverine 3" arrives in theaters on March 3, 2017.
