Microsoft's Xbox One is celebrating its first year anniversary with a blast, recording more than two billion hours played by owners within the last 365 days.

"It's been an unbelievable year, but we never would have gotten to this point without our incredible fans. We want to thank you for being a part of an amazing 12 months by celebrating with you all weekend long," said the official Xbox blog.

According to Microsoft, the total community Gamescore garnered more than 11 billion with the top four most popular games being Forza Motorsport 5: Welcome to Forza Motorsport, Titanfall: Build Yourself, Destiny: Ship Rite and Call of Duty: Ghosts: Spatial Awareness.

To show appreciation to fans and to also mark the opening of the holiday shopping season, Xbox One will be gifting players with new Xbox One backgrounds, free rental of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods.

Aside from these, Microsoft will select random lucky fans to win exciting cool prizes such as Xbox One Limited Edition Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Bundle, Xbox One Special Edition Sunset Overdrive Bundle, one month free membership to Xbox One-exclusive EA Access service, Forza Horizon 2 Limited Edition G-Shock and more.

For its part, Sony is also raving about the impressive statistics that PlayStation 4 has posted during its first year as a next-gen console.

"Thanks again for your incredible support over the years and please know that you, the PlayStation Nation, are in our hearts and minds every day reminding us to continue delivering the best gaming experiences possible and always ensure that PlayStation is truly the best place to play," SCEA President and CEO for Sony Shawn Layden.
