Xbox One S supports 4k video

(Facebook/Xbox)Xbox One S is 40 percent smaller than the current Xbox One.

After it was long speculated, it is finally confirmed that there is, indeed, Xbox One Slim, which is 40 percent smaller than its predecessor, and is otherwise known as Xbox One S.

Just a day before Microsoft's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) press conference, images of the then rumored Xbox One S surfaced online. The images were first published on Neo Gaf, and the report was eventually picked up by other websites.

However, it didn't really take long before the veracity of the leaked photos was confirmed as, during Microsoft's press conference for the E3, the company confirmed that the leaked photos are indeed those of its upcoming Xbox One S.

According to IGN, this is the first time for Xbox to have a physical makeover, even though it pointed out that the console has already had a hardware revision in the past. Apart from being undeniably smaller than the current Xbox, the newest Xbox console boasts of the capacity to support 4k video, a feature that many pundits consider as a major factor that can enable the upcoming console to woo possible customers.

Engadget opines that the biggest feature of the Xbox One S, which has yet to be commercially released, is its ability is its 4k support. While this feature may not necessarily mean that a player can play games in 4k resolution, this can enable Xbox One S owners to watch various contents at such a high clarity. The newest console does not only support 4k versions of Netflix and Amazon content, but 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, too.

Additionally, Xbox One S can be used in a vertical manner, thanks to a stand that officially comes with it. It is also packed with an integrated power supply and option to expand it with a 2 TB hard drive. Another notable change in the upcoming Xbox console is its USB port in front of the device, which makes it more accessible. Its new controller is also worth noting, thanks to its texture grips, wider range, and Bluetooth.

The Xbox One S will be officially launched this August and will come in three variants: the 2 TB version ($399), 500 GB ($299), and 1 TB ($349). According to Engadget, the 500 GB and 1 TB versions will be commercially available in December.
