Xiaomi has managed to impress the market with its tablets aside from its lineup of phablets and phones; and this year it appears that the Asian manufacturer has a new tablet in the works.

Rumors point out that this particular tablet will come with the new Windows 10 operating system, which was just released last month.

While it is not surprising that Xiaomi is bringing out a new tablet this year, many were taken aback when a rumor started to circulate that it would in fact be running on Windows 10.

The upcoming phablet is being billed as the follow up version of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 7.9 which was released in March 2014. That particular tablet came with an Android operating system and now, many expect that Xiaomi will no longer use Android for their upcoming tablets and switch to using Windows 10 only.

Others, meanwhile, have highlighted the collaboration between Microsoft and Xiaomi in the smartphone arena with the software major picking it as a testing partner for the new Windows 10 mobile operating system.

However, since the upcoming device is a tablet and not a smartphone, it remains to be seen whether it will launch with the Windows 10 or Windows 10 Mobile.

As for the Windows 10 Mobile, some of Xiaomi's devices are already running on the said OS, specifically the Xiaomi Mi 4; and an insider program is expected to kick off in China for these devices. The possibility of Windows 10 landing on a budget-priced tablet has caused a lot of jubilation among users who think that switching from Android to Windows has long been overdue.

However, since all the rumors concerning the new tablet have not been confirmed by Xiaomi, there is still the possibility that the device would launch with an Android OS just like its predecessor.

As for its launch date, all indications suggest that Xiaomi will be bringing it out on Aug. 16.
