YotaPhone 3 and YotaPhone 2C dual-screen smartphones officially confirmed for release in near future

Soon after releasing the dual-screen smartphone, YotaPhone 2 in the United States, its Russian manufacturer Yota Devices has now revealed plans for launching the YotaPhone 3 and YotaPhone 2C in the not-too-distant future.

The YotaPhone 2 sports not one, but two displays with a normal AMOLED 5-inch front screen having a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, and an always-on, 4.7-inch E-ink rear screen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The traditional front display can be used for gaming, messaging, web browsing, and watching videos, while the e-paper display on the back allows users to read books, check basic social networks and news apps, without excessive battery drain.

The dual-screen smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 system chip, paired with 2GB of RAM, and offers 32GB of internal storage. The YotaPhone 2 has an 8-megapixel rear camera and draws power from a 2500 mAh battery.

Six months after being launched in Europe, the second version of Russian manufacturer Yota Devices' dual-screen smartphone went on sale in the U.S. this month at IndieGogo, a crowdfunding website. The YotaPhone 2 was offered at a special price of $500 for the first 100 backers (exhausted quickly), as against the full manufacturer's suggested retail price of $600, and buyers can still preorder the YotaPhone 2 at a price of $550 until the campaign ends in July.

There had been rumors about the YotaPhone 3 and YotaPhone 2c being in the works at the time of the company's U.S. launch. Yota's Managing Director for the Americas, Matthew G. Kelly, has just confirmed those rumors by announcing that the company already has a "next-generation product lined up" which includes the YotaPhone 3 and the YotaPhone 2C.

Kelly did not provide any details about the upcoming devices, but the YotaPhone 3 is expected to come with improved features as compared to its predecessor, including a speedier processor, additional RAM, higher resolution main display, enhanced e-ink screen, and superior camera. On the other hand, the YotaPhone 2C, which Kelly confirmed was definitely "in the works", is expected to be a more affordable handset as it will come without some of the more premium features.

According to Kelly, U.S. carriers were showing interest in the YotaPhone 3 and the YotaPhone 2C, though a lot depended on how the YotaPhone 2 would perform in the U.S. "We have a next-generation product lined up," Kelly told TechnoBuffalo. "We can't sell our next generation until we sell our current one. Carriers are interested, but a lot hinges on how well the YotaPhona 2 does."
