Syfy's popular post-apocalyptic–themed TV series "Z Nation" has been renewed by the network for another season. Like the usual, the network will be airing 13 episodes of "Z Nation." The fourth season of the show is going to premiere sometime in 2017.

The Hollywood Reporter recently learned that the network will be renewing the zombie apocalypse drama for a new season. According to the news outlet, the show has been doing really well. Its ratings have been steady. "Z Nation" has reportedly received an average of 1.2 million viewers, and 500,000 of those viewers belong to the advertiser-coveted adults 18–49. The post-apocalyptic series is one of the 10 most-watched shows of the network.

For the uninitiated, the TV show is set in a zombie-infested America. Three inmates from Portsmouth Naval Prison in Kittery, Maine were forced to participate in an experiment, wherein they were all injected with the zombie virus that has killed most of humanity. Among the three prisoners, only Murphy survived. His immunity to the virus is the key to saving the rest of humanity.

The first season of "Z Nation" debuted on Sept. 12, 2014. Murphy is portrayed by Keith Allan. The show also stars Kellita Smith, DJ Qualls, Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, Nat Zang, and Emilio Rivera. Meanwhile, TV producer and writer Karl Schaefer runs the show.

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that the renewal of "Z Nation" doesn't come much of a surprise since the network has doubled the number of its science fiction shows in the past few years. A few of the sci-fi shows in the network include "12 Monkeys," "Channel Zero," "Dark Matter," "The Expanse," and "The Magicians."

The third season of "Z Nation" airs on Syfy on Friday nights. The current season is expected to air its finale this Dec. 16 at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
