Apple iOS 7.1 users were generating 12 percent of total North American iOS web traffic just 45 hours after the minor software upgrade was made available, according to statistics form an online ad network.

The figure rose 6.1 percentage points compared to the adoption rate at 24 hours of 5.9 percent, reported Chikita, a Massachusetts-based ad network in a released statement.

Users can upgrade to the new version by going to the settings, selecting general and tapping Software Update

According to Chitika's statistics the adoption rate was at 4 percent after 14 hours.

The iOS 7.1 adoption rate is similar to the adoption rate of iOS 7.0.6, Chitika noted. It is anticipated that future minor version upgrades will have a similar adoption rate.

Chitika's figures are generally perceived as accurate since most smartphones and tablets access the web on a daily basis, Slashgear noted. Data users share about their devices when they access web-pages includes the type of operating system being used and its version. The ad network is able to access those details as well.

The iOS 7.1 upgrade included interface refinements, bug fixes, new features such as Apple CarPlay and one option to control how long Siri listens, in addition to others.

Others changes include automatic HDR enabling on iPhone 5s, an updated look and feel, a new "Month view" for the calendar app, improvements to Touch ID fingerprint recognition, a bug fix for occasional Home screen crashes, and improved responsiveness and performance for iPhone 4 users.
