Several rumors have been emerging about the HTC smartwatch over the past year, but so far, the device has not hit the market. However, anticipation is building that the much-talked-about device will finally make an appearance in the first few weeks of June.
The latest news about the HTC smartwatch arrived via tipster Evan Blass, who took to his Twitter account to state that it would be arriving during the week of June 6. Importantly, Blass indicated earlier this year that the device would be arriving sometime in April. Now, if this statement is accurate, it appears that the HTC smartwatch has been delayed.
At the beginning of the year, there were also rumors that the HTC smartwatch would arrive sometime during January. Given that the release has been delayed since then, it is clear that the wearable could not easily make the rumored first week of June release date.
Meanwhile, the HTC smartwatch is not just a figment of imagination, and rumors about it have been flying since 2013. Earlier this year, the CEO of the company, Cher Wang, referred to it in an interview during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and described how it will turn the industry on its head when it releases. At that time, the CFO of the company, Chialin Chang, also stated that they were looking into how an HTC smartwatch will fit into the range of other products that the company produces.
As for the name of the wearable, all indications point toward it being dubbed the HTC One. However, it is clear right now that HTC has a big task on its hands if it wants its smartwatch offering to provide any sort of competition in a market that is dominated by the Apple Watch and other Android Wear devices like the Huawei Watch. Also, the Gear S2 from Samsung, which runs on Tizen, has proven to be a strong contender and has sold well to occupy the number 2 spot.
