The 42-year-old actor who was featured in the film Luther and played a gang boss in HBO's The Wire, could be the next holder of the coveted screen character, James Bond. The e-mails that were leaked from Sony reveal that Daniel Craig's contract will end after the next James Bond film, and that Elba will be the one to play the role after him.

Amy Pascal, the co-chairman of Sony Pictures allegedly told Elizabeth Cantillon, an executive over at Columbia Pictures that the actor "should be the next bond."

Co-chairman Amy Pascal allegedly told a top executive at Columbia Pictures, which distributes the Bond films, that "Idris should be the next bond." This revelation is one of the rumors that were said to be discussed when Sony e-mails were hacked as a result of the cancellation of the release of Seth Rogen and James Franco's The Interview on Christmas Day.

The hackers sent out threats on cinemas after the premiere was cancelled. The Interview is about two journalists recruited by the CIA to assassinate Kim Jong Un.

On Wednesday, it is revealed by the federal government that North Korea played out the attack on Sony that revealed thousands of confidential e-mails online.

If Idris Elba bags the role, he would become the first colored James Bond. Bond was previously played by iconic actors Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan.

Elba's peers in the industry have sent their confidence for him to play the role, particularly Jamie Foxx who stated in an interview that he is a "fan of the idea."

The actor himself is quite open to the idea of playing 007, as he stated in an online interview with the website, Reddit.

"Yes. if it was offered to me, absolutely," said Elba.
