A refreshed MacBook Air 2016 is reportedly in the pipelines. If this is true, it will arrive with a new port.

According to Christian Times, the MacBook Air 2016 might arrive this year despite rumors saying otherwise. Apple is reportedly planning to update their Air lineup in addition to their other Macs.

The report came from Bloomberg, which obtained this information from sources familiar with Apple's plans. These sources revealed that the MacBook Air 2016 will be refreshed with a new USB Type-C port.

Unfortunately, no other information about the upcoming Air laptop was revealed. It is unknown if it is coming with an upgraded screen and processor as expected.

As for its release date, the sources said that some of the new Macs will be launched in October at the earliest.

While this is good news to those who are still fans of the laptop, there are speculations that Apple is phasing out the Air lineup soon.

Some rumors suggest that there is no more room in the market for the Air lineup. It was previously advertised as the thinnest and lightest, but another device from the Cupertino-based company may have taken the Air's spot.

The tech giant has started marketing the iPad Pro as a replacement. Being a tablet, it is obviously thinner and lighter than a laptop.

"Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people," CEO Tim Cook previously said, according to iTechPost. "They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones."

Discontinuing the Air lineup would have both advantages and disadvantages to Apple. Without it, marketing efforts and resources would be focused on other products, but that would mean that the entry-level laptop niche would be empty.

The MacBook Air 2016 will reportedly be announced after Apple's Sept. 7 event and launched October onwards.
