'Narcos' season 3 spoilers, news, plot rumors: Pena and Murphy to hunt down Cali Cartel next?

(Narcos / Facebook)"Narcos" season 3 will come now focus on the Cali Cartel after Pablo's death

Following the death of Wagner Moura's Pablo Escobar in "Narcos" season two, viewers are now wondering what DEA Agent Javier Pena and Steve Murphy will be up to when the third season arrives.

As fans know, the two played a major role in the capture and finally the death of Pablo. Both Pena (Pedro Pascal) and Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) worked hard to track down Pablo's whereabouts in the first two installments of the hit series, but now that their main target is gone for good, what will they do next?

In one of the recent set photos released by Netflix, Pena is seen making an announcement as he stands on a podium. He looks sharp and serious while speaking, and though it is unclear what he is talking about, it can be safe to assume that he will be speaking about the death of Pablo.

It is also speculated that he will further explain about the rising Cali Cartel. The Medellin Cartel has now fallen apart following Pablo's death and the Calis will be taking advantage of this to rise from the ruins of what Pablo built. The war may have just begun and it is expected that Pena and Murphy will be working even harder in "Narcos" season three to stop the drug trade from moving further.

Meanwhile, the show's Twitter account has been dropping hints about what fans should expect from the rising Cali Cartel in "Narcos" season three. In one clip, Damián Alcázar's Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela is seen in a rage as he tells his company that he will definitely take vengeance in his own hands.

Another video compares the travels of Gilberto and Pablo wherein the former rides a helicopter provided by the government while the latter rides in the trunk of a taxi cab. In the said clip, the huge difference between Pablo's drug ring and that of the Calis is further explained.

It is expected that more of the differences between the Medellin Cartel and the Cali Cartel will be told in "Narcos" season three as the series digs deeper into how Gilberto, one of Pablo's biggest rivals, runs his drug ring.

"Narcos" season three is expected to premiere sometime mid-2017 on Netflix.
