'New Girl' season 6 spoilers: A crossover with 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' to happen

(FOX)"New Girl" will return for season 6 on September with a major crossover happening.

The secret about the upcoming season 6 of "New Girl" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 4 crossover is out. This was revealed by the latter's co-creator Dan Goor.

The crossover will happen as the series go back-to-back on a Tuesday. This means fans will be treated to a 2-hour special that will see the characters of the two shows come together. Goor said, "'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' crossing over with 'New Girl' is very exciting, but (and this is supposed to be a secret) it's just the first step." He further teased that two cast members will perform on "Empire," co-anchor the "Fox 10 O'Clock News," and also appear on "FOX NFL Sunday."

Elizabeth Meriwether, who is the creator and executive producer of "New Girl," also expressed excitement over the upcoming episode saying, "The crossover episode has historically been the artistic point of any show that has dared to attempt it." She went on to site late 1980s shows on NBC that figured in crossovers and said, "'New Girl' and 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' will proudly and humbly go where few shows have gone since the 1990s." She went on to say, "We know we have big shoes to fill, and we look forward to disappointing everyone. There's a 50% chance Alf will also be in both episodes. But there's also a 50% chance that's a lie."

Aside from the crossover, another major event in season 6 will be the return of actress Megan Fox who filled in for lead star Zooey Deschanel while she was on maternity leave from the show. Reagan, who is Fox's character, will not be seen right away due to her real-life pregnancy, but her story arc will be related to Nick (Jake Johnson) who Deschanel's character, Jess, has fallen in love with.

"New Girl" season 6 will premiere on Sept. 20 at 8:30 p.m. on Fox TV.
