After delays, PlanetSide 2 closed beta is coming to PlayStation 4 this January.

"...it was approved first pass and goes up either the week of the 13th or 20th. We will know when we are back on the 5th," confirmed Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley via Twitter.

PlanetSide 2 was initially scheduled for 2014 launch, but developers were not satisfied with the quality of the game yet. Perhaps, they have learned from the disastrous releases of major titles this year.

"As much as it sounds like we're blowing smoke, we're working hard to release a game that feels like a full-on console experience and not just like a port," creative director Matt Higby said in November.

"So it's taken us quite a long time to re-jigger our user interface and our controls. There's a lot that needs to get done."

There is a horde of work that has to be done with the game, considering that the work streams of PC are totally different from the next-gen console. Hence, there would be a great deal of enhancements that has to be undertaken specifically for the controller system.

PlanetSide 2 is a massive scale first-person shooter for PC. It found success when it was launched two years ago.

This MMOFPS (massively multiplayer online first person shooter) can be played by thousands in the same server, with the goal to align with one of the three Empires. What's unique about the game is that territorial combats can last for days. Survival of the fittest, indeed.

The three Empires include Terran Republic (authoritarian government), New Conglomerate (band of dissidents) and Vanu Sovereignty (advanced and powerful alien technology-powered battlefield).

Those who are interested to participate in the closed beta are encouraged to sign up in the game's official website.
