Interfaith Documentary on Advocacy to Air on Sept. 27

A documentary about legislative advocacy from various faith groups will be hitting the small screen this month, according to the National Council of Churches News Service.

Produced by CBS and the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission, the half-hour program titled "Religion, Politics & Advocacy" will air nationwide on Sunday, Sept. 27.

The program chronicles the activities of legislative advocates from several different faith groups, and was created in cooperation with the National Council of Churches (NCC), the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Islamic Society of North America, the Union for Reform Judaism and the New York Board of Rabbis.

"We're not trying to seek legislation here that benefits any of our faith groups," Jim Winkler, General Secretary of the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society told NCC News "This is really for the society as a whole, and that has power that trumps, in the end, the power of money."

Interviewees on the program include Sister Simone Campbell of the Catholic Social Justice lobby NETWORK; Dr. Sayid Syeed, a founder of the Islamic Society of North America; Andrew Genszler, Director of the Washington office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; Brent Walker, Executive Director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty; and Rabbi David Saperstein, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism.
