Sony Xperia Z5 Premium vs. iPhone 6 Plus: Sony offering outdoes Apple's iPhone

Sony announced its latest flagship phablet, the Xperia Z5, yesterday and it boasted of being the first device with a 4K screen, however, the iPhone 6 Plus, despite being released last year, is still managing to give the device a run for its money. Here is how these two impressive devices compare.

Design

The iPhone 6 Plus is built like its smaller sibling, the iPhone 6. It has a similar metal unibody and curved edges. It comes with a fingerprint sensor and is offered in three colors, gray, silver and gold. As for the Xperia Z5 Premium, its frame is made of metal but its front and back feature frosted glass. It comes in three colors, black, gold and chrome. Just like its competitor, it also has a fingerprint scanner integrated into its power button, located on the side. It has an IP68 certification, which means it can be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

Display

When it comes display size, the Xperia Z5 Premium and the iPhone 6 Plus are equal. However, the device from Apple lags in terms of quality as its 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen only has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 401 pixels per inch. As for the Xperia Z5 Premium, it has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with Triluminos technology that enhances color. It is also much shaper with a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels and a density of 806 pixels per inch.

Specs

The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset is used in the device from Sony and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz along with an Adreno 430 GPU. As for the iPhone 6 Plus, it lags behind it competitor when it comes to speed as it was released last year. It comes with the Apple A8 chipset, coupled with a Cyclone GPU with two cores clocked at 1.4 GHz along with a PowerVR GX6450 GPU.

Memory

There is no memory slot on the iPhone 6 Plus, therefore its memory cannot be expanded. The Xperia Z5 Premium, on the other hand, is a better option for users who need a lot of storage space, as it has a version which allows for the addition of up to 200 GB of external storage. As for RAM, the iPhone 6 Plus, again, lags behind as it only has 1 GB compared to the Xperia Z5 Premium, which has 3 GB.

Camera

The camera on the Xperia Z5 Premium is one of the very best currently available. It is a 23 megapixel version with a 1/2.3 Exmor sensor. As for the iPhone 6 Plus, it only has an 8 megapixel version with optical image stabilization.

Battery

The Sony device comes with more battery juice than the iPhone. It has a bigger 3430 mAh battery, which provides up to two days of charge. As for the iPhone 6 Plus, it has a 2915 mAh battery capacity.

Price

The price of the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium has yet to be revealed but it could match the price tag of the iPhone 6 Plus, which is priced at $299 with a two-year contract.
