Apple launched an update for iOS devices with iOS 7.1.2 giving it a July 1st release date.

Right off the bat, there are no obvious changes in the design, interface or the background, because the purpose of the iOS 7.1.2 update largely involves the elements that most users won't notice in the first place.

While this OS update comes with very few features, the main objective of this iteration is to address security issues and introduce bug fixes.

The iOS 7.1.2 update, which is around 32MB in size, is available for iPhone 4 and later, iPod Touch 5th-generation and later, and iPad 2 and later.

Downloading iOS 7.1.2 will automatically update your device's certificate trust policy, improving bounds checking to address application termination or arbitrary code execution whenever you try to access a maliciously fashioned XBM file.

The updated iOS for Apple's mobile devices also brings improvements on iBeacon connectivity, and bug fixing involving data transfers from third party accessories.

The bolstered security arsenal through additional client-side verification of data received from activation servers will tackle concerns of partial bypass of Activation Locks by malicious individuals.

The failed passcode attempt limit was also reinforced to prevent individuals in possession of a device from exceeding the allowable number of tries, and Airplane mode management was enhanced to stop anyone from accessing applications that was in the foreground prior to locking.

To update your iDevices, you may either:

1. Do it manually by accessing Settings > General > Software Update.

2. Connect your iOS device to your computer and open iTunes to download and install the update from there.

This minor update does not match the excitement of Apple's fandom that is abuzz with the nearing launch of iPhone 6 and iOS 8, the latter of which was announced during the WWDC 2014.

The iOS 7.1.2 update comes less than four months after the iOS 7.1 update was released in March of this year.
