BlackBerry Priv vs Galaxy S6: Flagship from Samsung has better looks and is faster
With BlackBerry's latest device the Priv bringing in better than expected sales for the company, it is time to check how the smartphone compares to this year's flagship device from Samsung the Galaxy S6.
Design
The Priv now runs Android Lollipop so when it comes to its operating system it is quite similar to its competitor; however, in terms of physical attributes it is different. First off it has a physical keyboard that slides under the body and remains out of view, also it has a dual curved edges on its screen. One curved edge can be customized to display the amount of charge available in the battery, when the phone is charging and also comes with a Productivity Edge feature that can be used to check notifications and apps. However, the BlackBerry Priv does not have a fingerprint scanner and it only comes in one color black. As for its build, it has a metal frame and a back panel made of fiberglass that has a soft touch coating layered on top, and TomsGuide states it makes it the "most elegant" device from the company so far. The Galaxy S6 on the other hand has a standard smartphone design, but it looks much better as it has a metal frame and Gorilla Glass 4 on its back panel that is highly polished. It has a fingerprint scanner in its home button and comes in four colors blue, white, black and gold.
Display
There is a 5.1 inch super AMOLED screen on the Galaxy S6 and it has a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and density of 577 pixels per inch. As for the BlackBerry Priv it comes with a 5.4 inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and density of 540 pixels per inch.
Specs
Coming to hardware, there is a slower Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset on the Priv and it is coupled with a hexa-core CPU and an Adreno 418 GPU. As for the Galaxy S6 it has Samsung's home grown Exynos 7420 chipset which is much faster and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T760MP8 GPU.
Memory
With no memory slot on the Galaxy S6 so there is no possibility of external storage being added while the Priv supports up to 200 GB. Coming to RAM, each of these devices has 3 GB onboard.
Camera
The camera on the Priv is an 18 megapixel version with OIS while the Galaxy S6 has a 16 megapixel version with OIS.
Price
Coming to price, the BlackBerry Priv costs $250 with a two year contract while the Samsung Galaxy S6 costs $199 with a similar contract.
