Chicago Bulls trade rumors 2016: Taj Gibson to Philly for Jahlil Okafor?
The Chicago Bulls kept a competitive front line despite the departure of Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah. However, it can get better with the potential addition of the Philadelphia 76ers' Jahlil Okafor.
When Noah and Gasol left the Windy City, a lot of people thought the Bulls' frontcourt would not be as threatening as it was before. But the arrival of Robin Lopez, together with the emergence of Bobby Portis and Cristiano Felicio, changed that.
Still, there is room for improvement and Okafor could be that boost.
Okafor will add youth and scoring to the Bulls' big men unit if they pursue him. Because of his potential, the 20-year-old can be one of the players considered as the future of the franchise.
The 2015-16 season was Okafor's rookie year and despite the off-court issues, he used that period to prove he can be a dominant center in the league. In 53 games (48 starts), he averaged 17.5 points, seven rebounds, 1.2 assists, with 1.2 rejections per contest.
Who the Bulls can ship to Philly for Okafor is veteran forward Taj Gibson, who is rumored to be available this off-season.
Because the younger big men are stepping up for Chicago, Gibson's role with the team started to diminish. Along with this are his numbers as he only averaged 8.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 blocks per game last season. Perhaps these are the reasons why he is being shopped by the Bulls.
Gibson would not solve the 76ers' problem of having a loaded status at the no. 4 and 5 positions but he will provide veteran presence, something the franchise badly needs in the past few years. Aside from this, the 31-year-old may be able to re-establish himself since he is going to be one of the leaders for the squad.
For now, both Okafor and Gibson are staying with their respective squads, also on the rumor mill.
