Golden State Warriors free agency, trade rumors 2016: Elliot Williams to land roster spot?

(Reuters/Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports)The Golden State Warriors reportedly reached a one-year deal with guard Eliott Williams.

The Golden State Warriors already have 14 players on the roster likely making it to the 2016-17 National Basketball Association (NBA) season. That leaves just one spot on the team and one of the players trying to fill that void is guard Elliot Williams.

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, the Warriors reached a deal with Williams.

It will not be an easy task for Williams to capture the remaining slot if he was really given a chance by the Warriors since one of the players he is competing with is veteran center JaVale McGee, who was recently invited to training camp.

Williams was the 22nd overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2010 NBA draft. A knee woe sidelined him for what could have been his rookie year in the 2010-11 season. He made his debut for the Blazers in the 2011-12 season but was limited to only 24 appearances due to a dislocated shoulder. In the 2012-13 season, the injury bug again attacked him as an Achilles tendon injury sidelined him for the entire season.

Following an unfortunate run in Portland, Williams inked with the Philadelphia 76ers in November of 2013. There he saw significant playing time as a reserve, although during that season, he also had the chance to suit up for the Sixers' NBA Developmental League (D-League) affiliate, the Delaware 87ers.

Sadly after those stints, it was an inconsistent ride for Williams. He had stops with the Santa Cruz Warriors (NBA D-League), Utah Jazz, New Orleans Pelicans, Memphis Grizzlies, and even signed with Greek club Panathinaikos.

Williams must work hard to better his chances of being the 15th man on Golden State's roster. It is going to be difficult since the Dubs already have a number of guards and are most likely needing another center, like McGee, after the departure of some key big men this off-season.
