iPhone 6C features, rumors and release date: budget phone with Touch ID accidentally leaked by Apple on own website

With the launch of the new iPhone just months away, news and rumors related to Apple's upcoming product have been circulating on the Internet for the last few months. Now the latest speculation is that Apple may have accidentally posted an image of what appears to be the iPhone 6C handset with Touch ID feature on its own website.

Apple has been widely expected to update both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Apple had announced the larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September 2014, but had not updated the iPhone 5C at that time. This had led to speculations that Apple could launch three handsets in September, the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 6S Plus with a bigger screen and the mini 4-inch iPhone 6C, a successor to the lower-cost iPhone 5C launched in 2013. Last month, a German store 24Mobile.dehas had even listed the iPhone 6C along with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus on its website.

Apple has never made any official announcement regarding the iPhone 6C, but may have just made an embarrassing gaffe by revealing what appears to be the iPhone 6C on its own website. Apple has uploaded a product image of a new iPhone Lightning Dock charger, along with a brand new phone sitting atop it that looks like the upcoming mini 4-inch iPhone 6C.

The handset in the picture features the same pink colored casing found in Apple's iPhone 5C, which was released in September 2013, but featuring a TouchID fingerprint scanner. However, earlier leaked images of the purported 4-inch iPhone 6c had shown its rear casing to be clearly different from the original iPhone 5C.

Nevertheless, Apple's gaffe could be a near-official confirmation of a 4-inch iPhone coming this year and the "budget" model could satisfy a lot of customers who want the latest hardware, but do not wish to pay for big-screened devices like the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 Plus.
