LG G5 modules could have starting price of $85
The world's first modular smartphone arrived in the form of the LG G5 this year, and a lot of attention was focused on the types of modules it would offer. With the LG G5 due to arrive in the market soon, the phone has become the subject of heated discussion and many are wondering when additional modules will be released and the pricing of the current ones.
Reporting on the arrival of the LG G5's modules, Android Central states that a press release in Korea indicates that the LG Cam Plus will be priced at $85 and the Hi-Fi Plus will be priced at $160. These modules were revealed alongside the LG G5 when it was announced a day before Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 kicked off this year. Since their reveal, the modules have been heralded as a good way to improve the functionalities of the LG as they can just be snapped into the Magic Slot, which is available at the bottom of the smartphone.
Among the modules, the LG Cam Plus comes with an additional battery and it brings the total available capacity in the smartphone up to 4,000 mAh. The module also has physical controls for the dual camera, which is on the rear of the device. As for the Hi-Fi Plus module, it has been created by LG in conjunction with Bang & Olufsen and is a Hi-Fi digital to audio converter that can be used along with the smartphone. However, it can also be used in standalone mode and pumps out 32-bit audio.
LG also outlined how it would be working with other manufacturers to create additional modules for the G5. Using these additional modules, people will be able to improve the features and hardware on their device without upgrading their entire smartphone every few years. The South Korean manufacturer also held a conference lately in which the company spoke to developers about the possibility of creating other modules for the LG G5, which are currently being marketed under the "Friends" tag.
